The Wrestler

thewrestlerThe Wrestler starring Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei. I saw the end of the Golden Globes to see Mickey Rourke receive best actor in a drama. You have to feel for the guy. I real life under dog. In his speech he mentioned being alone. In the movie he talks about being alone. Similarities add to the tone of the movie. I thought the movie was a heart breaking story. Long ago the days of 9 ½ weeks, man remember that? To me it was exciting to see him in Sin City. Every one said that was a role for Rourke but honestly it wasn’t a compliment. And probably fewer people can recall Barfly. Good for you Mickey Rourke! The leading lady sure has her own past. 1992 My Cousin Vinny with Joe Pesci cummon forget bout it! Tomei shocked me in Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. I’ll tell you I don’t usually say I was shocked very often. Nothing like her role in Alfie but she is special. The movie introduces us to the world of Wrestling. I kept cringing at all the wrestlers do to each other. Through the movie I was hoping for a happy ending but I knew that was too easy and more times not real. At the end I thought how sad for Randy the Ram. As the credits past I thought everyone wants to be loved for who they are. Cassidy (Tomei) and Stephanie (Evan Rachel Wood) the daughter both asked Randy too love them unconditionally. Randy himself asked to be loved in all his mess. Just love me for me. In the end they couldn’t accept Randy but he was true to himself. He was a Wrestler and that’s what he did. There are no heroes here just people struggling along. Sometimes standing alone is all you have.
