Red (2010)

Once in a while I have to take a break from all the horror flick bliss. So how about a comedy with some pretty big name actors. Like Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Bruce Willis and Mary-Louise Parker. But does big names equal to laughs. The movie trailer looked funny with Malkovich running like a fool. Now Helen Mirren didn’t really picture her in a silly comedy. Would the critics and I find the movie a hit. It’s rare when I agree with the critics. I don’t know why that is but my guess it’s political. Or maybe I’m just crazy just riding below norm. You know how they always say he was a quiet guy.

Bruce Willis plays Frank Moses a retired CIA agent, Frank plays it cool. Too cool like Frank knows this is all bullshit. Love interest Sarah Ross played by Mary-Louise Parker. I was surprise pretty small part for Parker. Sarah Ross is bored, longing for travel and adventure. Well she finds plenty with Frank. The cool part Mary-Louise Parker and her great smile. I could never get enough of her smile. Somebody wants Frank dead and anyone around him is in danger too. One by one Franks old buddies come into the picture. I think the funniest was John Malkovich as Marvin Boggs. A paranoid LSD problem child. Wait Victoria played by Helen Mirren firing a 50 caliber cannon was funny. (not sure on the caliber).

I like movies over the top they can be fun. This movie was over the top and funny not bad. It looks like some money was spent too. All the action was top notch. Why does everyone recently think they can car hop moving cars? The movie is good despite some flaws. Frank seem like he was there to pick up a pay check. Mary-Louise Parker was cute but not the best role. Grandma contract killer you could only pull that off once. But fairly I had laughs throughout the movie. It’s a movie for everybody. I guess we don’t need shock and awe all the time. Under all this cuteness is a fact for everyone getting old sucks!
