Every one is talking about this movie. The trailer gives you a glimpse into the world of Pandora. In the future similar to our own corporate world. A company wants to mine for raw materials found in Pandora. Standing in the way is a native human-like Na’vi. Research is in progress and humans have grown Avatars controlled by humans to interact with the Na’vi. This was pretty weak idea but its a small detail that is quickly forgotten. Starring Sam Worthington as Jake Sully. After his brother the scientist dies, Jake is asked to take his brothers place. He is the only one who can use the Avatar created for his brother. This idea is really cool. It brings the computer virtual world into a new dimension. How cool would it be to play as an alien. Before I forget I did see the movie in 3D. I’m not a huge fan of 3D movies but I would say it adds to the Pandora world. Jake is paraplegic from previous wars. Later this plays into the story. Sigourney Weaver plays Dr. Grace Augustine in charge of the Avatar project. During a trip as an Avatar in the jungle of Pandora Jake gets separated from the group as he ran from a creature. The Pandora creatures were very cool. Small details make all the difference. The details of the animals were amazing. Jake finds himself alone at night in the jungle. Just when it seem this would be the end. Neytiri to the rescue played by Zoe Saldana. Neytiri is a cool character full of live and a fierce hunter. The Na’vi decide to teach Jake the ways of the people. I kept thinking this reminds me of Dances with wolves or the many North American Indian stories I have read. The whole part of learning the ways of the Na’vi people to me is the real gem. Being in touch with nature and respecting all living thins is easy for me to embrace. The good times don’t last. The corporate world won’t wait when there is profit to be made. The hired military led by Colonel Mile Quaritch played by Stephan Lang. Colonel Quaritch is the classic military philosophy, shoot first ask later. Armed with technology and the will to succeed at any cost. There is a lot of emotions of classic struggles that are very human since man has told stories. The final stance of the Na’vi and military is as good as any I have seen. Heroes are great only when their adversaries are worthy warriors them self. Very good story with excellent characters and plenty of action. Like I’ve said before Sci-Fi is taking over Hollywood.
